St Michael and All Angels – Wednesday 29th September

The light and peace of Christ be with you all,

And also with you.

Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God,

Who is worthy of all thanksgiving.

Blessed……. Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

Blessed be God forever. Amen

Psalm 148

1 Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights above.
2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
3 Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.
4 Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.

5 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for at his command they were created,
6 and he established them for ever and ever— he issued a decree that will never pass away.

7 Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding,
9 you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and women, old men and children.

13 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted;
his splendour is above the earth and the heavens.
14 And he has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his faithful servants of Israel, the people close to his heart.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever, Amen

Reading – Revelations 5 The Scroll and the Lamb

5 Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. 9 And they sang a new song, saying:

“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals,
because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.”

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honour and glory and praise!”

13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, for ever and ever!”

14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.

Prayers – Let us pray:

for the world and its people,

the Church – the family of God,

those who are the sick and suffering,

the sad and the sorrowful,

for the Harvest and all our blessings,

those on our minds at the moment ………

All – Lord you know what it is to be sad and suffering and you know what it is to be made new. Grant, your blessing this evening to all who are bruised and battered by life and restore them in body, mind and spirit. Reach out to all in your love and bring your healing, renewing touch. Amen.

The Collect of St Michael and all Angels

Eternal Lord God, you have drawn us together with the angels in a wonderful order to serve you: Grant that as your holy angels always minister to you in heaven, so, by your appointment, they may help and defend us on earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Whatever today may hold, whatever tomorrow may bring, the future is secure for Christ is with us, the same yesterday, today and for ever. Live each moment with him in quiet confidence and joyful celebration, for he is ours and we are his for all eternity. Amen
