A Evening Service for Healing – Wednesday 27th October  2021

Gathering

We gather together: some of us empty and some of us broken:

yearning for the Holy Spirit to fill us anew.

We come among fellow seekers who have heard God’s call:

Trusting that God will continue to illuminate our hearts.

We gather together, longing to be fed by the Spirit and one another:

That with God’s grace and healing, we may serve others and bring hope to the world.

Opening Prayer

As the rain hides the stars,

As the Autumn mist hides the hills,

As the clouds veil the blue of the sky,

so the dark happenings of my lot hide the shining of thy face from me.

Yet, if I may hold thy hand in the darkness, it is enough, since I know,

that though I may stumble in my going, thou dost not fall.

Prayers of Penitence

The gospel calls us to turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ.

Cast your burden upon the Lord           and he will sustain you.

In returning and rest                                 you shall be saved.

In quietness and trust                               shall be your strength.

A short period of silent reflection and self-examination.

You raise the dead to life in the Spirit:

Lord, have mercy.                                      Lord, have mercy.

You bring pardon and peace to the sinner:

Christ, have mercy.                                   Christ, have mercy.

You bring light to those in darkness:

Lord, have mercy.                                      Lord, have mercy.

May Almighty God, who sent his Son into the world to save sinners,

bring you his pardon and peace, now and for ever.            Amen.

Psalm 28

To you, Lord, I call; you are my Rock, do not turn a deaf ear to me.
For if you remain silent, I will be like those who go down to the pit.
Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help,
as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.

Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil,
who speak cordially with their neighbours but harbour malice in their hearts.
Repay them for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back on them what they deserve.

Because they have no regard for the deeds of the Lord and what his hands have done, he will tear them down and never build them up again.

Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

8 The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

As it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Reading – Matthew 20 v 28 – 34 Two blind men receive sight

29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him.  30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” 32 Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. 33 “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” 34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

Few thoughts

“My soul is at rests in God alone, my salvation comes from God”           Psalm 62

“Heal me, hands of Jesus and search out all my pain: restore my hope, remove my fear and bring me peace again”

The Prayers of the People.

Lord hear the suffering of your people.

I speak for all the people of the world, the victims of war and disaster, and all those who are hurt or hungry, afraid or anxious.

Lord, in your compassion,           come near to heal and to bless.

I speak for the earth itself – how it groans as mankind despoils its beauty and is careless of its natural laws

Lord, in your compassion,           come near to heal and to bless.

I speak for the children who are abandoned or lost, without families and without love, for those who live in the streets, for those who live in institutions, for all children everywhere who are abused, frightened, or alone.

Lord, in your compassion,           come near to heal and to bless.

I speak for all people who wrestle with the effects of the covid pandemic, those who have lost loved ones, those who have long term health effects, those who have lost their employment or business, those whose lives are changed.

Lord, in your compassion,           come near to heal and to bless.

I speak for all people who are homeless, those living in crumbling homes, those anxious about money or those living in fear for the future.

Lord, in your compassion,           come near to heal and to bless.

I speak for those who are sick, those who are in pain, those waiting for surgery, those who face long term illnesses or curable disease

Lord, in your compassion,           come near to heal and to bless.

I speak for all who have died and particularly, for those whose anniversaries occur at this time, and for all those who loved and cared for them .

Lord in your compassion,            come near to heal and to bless.

You are above us, O God: you are beneath.

You are in the air, you are in the earth,

you are beside us: you are within us.

You are in the betrayed and suffering people of our world,

just as you were in the broken body of Jesus.

Grant that we may know your resurrection as blessing and goodness in our lives. Amen

The Prayer that Jesus Taught us

Oh, Holy One, Our only home, hallowed be thy name. May your day dawn and may your will be done here as in heaven. Feed us and forgive us as we forgive each other. Do not forsake us at the test but deliver us from evil.                                                                          For the glory and power of mercy and love are yours, now and forever Amen

Be present, Spirit of God, within us, your dwelling place and home, that this house may be one where all darkness is penetrated by your light, all troubles calmed by your peace, all evil redeemed by your love, all pain transformed by your suffering and all dying glorified by your life. Amen

Thinking of people known to us in need of healing at the moment, we say together the Healing Prayer

Our Lord Jesus Christ, present with us now in your risen power, enter into the bodies and spirits of those we know in need at this moment, take from them all that harms and hinders them and fill them with your healing and your peace. Amen

The peace of the Lord be always with you     and also with you

The Blessing – May the God of grace breathe health into your body, love into your heart, peace into your mind and joy into your spirit. Go now your lives filled to overflowing and rest in His love. Amen
