GREETING
Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the universe.
From the rising of the sun to its setting
your name is proclaimed in all the world.
The Lord of glory be with you.

INVITATION TO WORSHIP
The Christ child is born!
All you who would find him,
prepare for a journey, as the Magi did.
All you who would praise him,
come with the faith to follow but a star.
All you who would worship him,
come with humility to the child
who shows forth the immeasurable riches of God.

PRAYER OF ADORATION
Almighty Lord God,
you gave your Son, Jesus Christ, to be the light of the world:
We praise and magnify your holy name that in him
you have revealed the wonder of your saving love to all people.
With those of old who brought their tribute to his feet,
confessing him as King of heaven and earth,
we now present the worship of our grateful hearts,
asking you to give us grace to give ourselves to you,
through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Opening Hymn: 198 “The first Noel the angel did say”
The first Noel the angel did say
was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
in fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
on a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

PENITENCE
The grace of God has dawned upon the world
through our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who sacrificed himself for us to purify a people as his own.
Let us confess our sins.
Silence
O God, our guide,
who once used a star to lead people to Christ,
we confess our poor sense of direction.
We let ourselves become confused, easily distracted, and lose our way.
We fail to follow the signs you provide.
Forgive our waywardness, O God.
Lead us to the Christ so that we may follow his way to you. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you,
that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all.
If we say that we have fellowship with him
while we are walking in darkness,
we lie and do not do what is true;
but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

The Epistle: Ephesians 3: 1-12
This is the reason that I Paul am a prisoner for Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles— for
surely you have already heard of the commission of God’s grace that was given to me for you,
and how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I wrote above in a few words, a
reading of which will enable you to perceive my understanding of the mystery of Christ. In
former generations this mystery was not made known to humankind, as it has now been revealed
to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit: that is, the Gentiles have become fellow-heirs,
members of the same body, and sharers in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Of this gospel I have become a servant according to the gift of God’s grace that was given to me
by the working of his power. Although I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given
to me to bring to the Gentiles the news of the boundless riches of Christ, and to make everyone
see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things; so that through
the church the wisdom of God in its rich variety might now be made known to the rulers and
authorities in the heavenly places. This was in accordance with the eternal purpose that he has
carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have access to God in boldness and confidence
through faith in him.

The Gospel: Matthew 2: 1-12
In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East
came to Jerusalem, asking, ‘Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we
observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.’ When King Herod heard this,
he was frightened, and all Jerusalem with him; and calling together all the chief priests and
scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Messiah was to be born. They told him, ‘In
Bethlehem of Judea; for so it has been written by the prophet:
“And you, Bethlehem, in the land of,
by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler
is to shepherd my people.” ’

Then Herod secretly called for the wise men and learned from them the exact time when the star
had appeared. Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, ‘Go and search diligently for the child;
and when you have found him, bring me word so that I may also go and pay him homage.’ When
they had heard the king, they set out; and there, ahead of them, went the star that they had seen at
its rising, until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw that the star had
stopped, they were overwhelmed with joy. On entering the house, they saw the child with Mary
his mother; and they knelt down and paid him homage. Then, opening their treasure-chests, they
offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. And having been warned in a dream not to
return to Herod, they left for their own country by another road.

COLLECT OF THE WORD
Radiant Morning Star,
you are both guidance and mystery.
Visit our rest with disturbing dreams
and our journeys with strange companions.
Grace us with the hospitality
to open our hearts and homes
to visitors filled with unfamiliar wisdom
bearing profound and unusual gifts. Amen.

SCRIPTURAL AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Do you believe and trust in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ?
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION
The wise men knelt before our Saviour. Let us also worship him with great joy, and make our
prayer to his heavenly Father.
Father, the wise men came from the east to worship your Son:
grant to Christians everywhere a true spirit of adoration.
Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.
Father, your Son is the King of kings and Lord of lords:
grant an abundance of peace to your world.

Father, the Holy Family shared the life of the people of Nazareth:
protect in your mercy our neighbours and families, together with the whole community of which

ARCHBISHOP’S NEW YEAR’S REFLECTION
DISMISSAL
The light of God’s purposes has shone upon us.
Carry that light into another week.
The star of God’s promises that led us to worship
now leads us to serve in God’s world.
When we have met God in the light,
we cannot dwell comfortably in the shadows.
We cannot enjoy our abundance and wealth
without thanksgiving and generous sharing.
The glory of God shines on you today.
Others will see your radiance and rejoice with you.
We seek God’s peace that we may share it,
God’s wisdom that we may live by it,
in Christ’s name.

God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live
through him. 1 John 4: 9

OPENING PRAYER
Glory to God in highest heaven,
and peace on the earth to which he came.
Like the shepherds, encouraged by angels,
may we still seek and find you,
born of Mary in crowded Bethlehem,
and glorify and praise you
for all we have heard and seen.
Blessed be God for ever.

PENITENCE
Let us confess our sins to God our Father.

Hope for the future

The parish is hugely grateful to all who provide support in so many ways.
The challenges that we have all faced and will continue to face are not just
liturgical or logistical, but financial too. Traditional methods of fund raising
could not take place this year. We would urge you to put your parish on
your Christmas present list this year in particular and help to alleviate
financial concerns, should your own circumstances permit.
There are many ways in which people can make a contribution such as:
A Once-Off gift this Christmas
Planned Giving (see below)
Fundraising
Contributing your time and talents to the running of the Parish
Methods of Planned Giving are:
*The envelope system which enables parishioners to donate regular cash
amounts which can be recorded for tax refund purposes. Envelopes can be
obtained from the churchwardens.
*By setting up a standing order with your bank for a minimum donation of
€5 per week (or monthly or quarterly equivalent).
*A donation or donations totalling at least €250 can be made directly to
the Parish Treasurer, Scott Golden, Malvern House, The Glebe, Wicklow
Town.
We cannot yet know just how 2021 will look, but the parish will be there
for you. We hope for a return to the traditional, but also to have learned
from the past nine months so that we may move forward with renewed
faith and hope for the future.

The Hub – December

The Hub re-opened on Tuesday 1st December. Sales in the first week back
have been brisk. The shop now has extended opening hours, thanks to the
appointment of a Tus worker, Amy Shannon. The new opening hours are:
Mondays and Saturdays — 11.00am to 3.00pm
Tuesdays to Fridays — 10.00m to 4.15pm

Carol Services

This year’s carol services will go online.
A number of musical rehearsals are in progress. These will record the
musical elements of the parish carol service. To this will be added readings
and prayers. Thanks are due to our musical director, Tim Hicks, for
arranging the pieces and to Scott Golden for making the recordings and
editing these. It is anticipated that this service will be uploaded to the
YouTube channel no later than Friday 18 December.
The school teachers and children are also working on an online Carol
service.

Carols at Cooley

Cooley Farm, Glenealy, is hosting drive-in Christmas carol services on
18th and 19th December from 6.30 to 7.30pm. Enjoy carols from the
