Please consider renewing or beginning your financial commitment to Killiskey Parish
by way of Planned Giving. By doing this you can maximise the amount of money
received by the Parish and greatly assist the Parish to meet its financial
commitments. Planned Giving is making a pledge to donate an amount of money
regularly over the course of the year whether weekly, monthly, quarterly or by a
single donation. Under the tax regulations, the Parish, as a registered charity, can
obtain a tax refund from the government for recorded donations from tax payers
(PAYE and Self-Assessment) who contribute a minimum of €250 in the tax year.
This is the equivalent of €4.81 per week. The parish can claim a further approx.
45% of the amount donated from the government. Cash donations on the plate,
while very gratefully received, are not eligible for a tax refund. If you are
contributing more than €250 over the course of the year through this method, you
might like to consider Planned Giving.
Planned Giving can be done in any one of the following ways:
*The envelope system enables parishioners to donate regular cash amounts which
can be recorded for tax refund purposes. Envelopes can be obtained from the
churchwardens.
*By setting up a standing order with your bank for a minimum donation of €5 per
week (or monthly or quarterly equivalent).
*A donation or donations totalling at least €250 can be made directly to the Parish
Treasurer, Scott Golden, Malvern House, The Glebe, Wicklow Town.

Coronavirus Poem
The scientists predict
and science says wait.
So in the hands of science
we place our fate.
But I know what
I would rather do.
Trust in You my God
and follow You.
I’ll greet others with a smile
and not with a touch.
Avoiding the crowds
and not go out too much.
…… and as the world social distances itself
and covers its face;
You will hold me close
in Your loving embrace.
I have food in the fridge
and upon each shelf
for I’m being advised
to isolate myself.
I’m unsure whether I’ll see these
twelve weeks through
or will walk through the
Vale of Death with You.
But, dear Lord, whatever
the outcome will be
I know that You will stay
very close to me.

MORNING PRAYER FOR USE ON SUNDAY – 28 JUNE 2020
THE THIRD SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
The Gathering of God’s People
THE GREETING
Grace, mercy and peace
from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ
be with you all
and also with you.
Hymn of Praise: CH52 “Morning has broken”
Morning has broken,
like the first morning;
blackbird has spoken
like the first bird.
Praise for the singing!
Praise for the morning!
Praise for them springing
fresh from the Word.
Sweet the rain’s new fall
sunlit from heaven,
like the first dew-fall
on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness,
of the wet garden,
Sprung in completeness
where his feet pass.
Mine is the sunlight!
Mine is the morning,
born of the one light
Eden saw play!
Praise with elation,
praise every morning,
God’s re-creation
of the new day!
Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965)
INTRODUCTION
We have come together in the name of Christ
to offer our praise and thanksgiving,
to hear and receive God’s holy word,
to seek the forgiveness of our sins,
and to pray for the needs of the world,
that by the power of the Holy Spirit
we may give ourselves to the service of God.
O Lord, open our lips,
and our mouth will proclaim your praise.
Let us worship the Lord.
All praise to his name.
Blessed are you, Sovereign God, Creator of all,
to you be praise and glory for ever.
You founded the earth in the beginning
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
In the fulness of time, you made us in your image,
and in these last days you have spoken to us
in your Son Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh.
As we rejoice in the gift of your presence among us
let the light of your love always shine in our hearts,
your Spirit ever renew our lives
and your praises ever be on our lips.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Blessed be God for ever.
PENITENCE
If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins,
God is faithful and just
and will forgive our sins
and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1: 8-9
Let us confess our sins to God our Father.
O God, our loving Father in heaven,
we confess that we have sinned against you;
we have broken your commandments;
we have often been selfish,
and we have not loved you as we should.
For these, and all our sins, forgive us, we pray:
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
May the Father of all mercies
cleanse you from your sins,
and restore you in his image
to the praise and glory of his name,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
SENTENCES OF SCRIPTURE
Your word is a lantern to my feet
and a light upon our path. cf Psalm 119:105
O Lord, your word is everlasting:
it stands firm for ever in the heavens. cf Psalm 119: 89
Let us then receive the word of the Lord:
so may the light of your presence shine into our hearts.
Proclaiming and Receiving the Word
The First Reading: Jeremiah 28: 5-9
Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah before the priests and all the people who were
standing in the house of the Lord. He said, ‘Amen! May the Lord do so! May the Lord fulfil the words
you have prophesied by bringing the articles of the Lord’s house and all the exiles back to this place from
Babylon. Nevertheless, listen to what I have to say in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people:
from early times the prophets who preceded you and me have prophesied war, disaster and plague against
many countries and great kingdoms. But the prophet who prophesies peace will be recognised as one truly
sent by the Lord only if his prediction comes true.’
After the reading silence may be kept.
Responsory Hymn: CH381 “God has spoken – by his prophets”
God has spoken – by His prophets,
spoken His unchanging Word,
each from age to age proclaiming
God, the one, the righteous Lord;
in the world’s despair and turmoil,
one firm anchor holding fast:
God is King, His throne eternal,
God the first, and God the last.
God has spoken – by Christ Jesus,
Christ, the everlasting Son,
brightness of the Father’s glory,
with the Father ever one:
spoken by the Word incarnate,
Life, before all time began,
Light of light to earth descending,
God revealed as Son of Man.
God is speaking – by his Spirit
speaking to our hearts again;
in the age-long word expounding
God’s own message, now as then;
Through the rise and fall of nations
one sure faith is standing fast;
God abides, his word unchanging,
God the first, and God the last.
George W. Briggs (1875-1959)
based on Hebrews 1: 1-2
The Second Reading: Romans 6: 12-23
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer any part
of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have
been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.
For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means! Don’t you
know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey –
whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But
thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the
pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have
become slaves to righteousness.
I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer
yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to
righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of
righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those
things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the
benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift
of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
After the reading silence may be kept.
Hymn before the Gospel: CH517 “Brother, sister, let me serve you”
Brother, sister, let me serve you,
let me be as Christ to you.
Pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant, too.
We are pilgrims on a journey,
and companions on the road;
we are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load.
I will hold the Christ-light for you
in the night-time of your fear;
I will hold my hand out to you,
speak the peace you long to hear.
I will weep when you are weeping;
when you laugh I’ll laugh with you.
I will share your joy and sorrow
till we’ve seen this journey through.
When we sing to God in heaven,
we shall find such harmony,
born of all we’ve known together
of Christ’s love and agony.
Won’t you let me be your servant,
let me be as Christ to you?
Pray that I may have the grace to
let you be my servant, too.
Richard Gillard (b. 1953)
The Gospel Reading: Matthew 10: 40-42
‘Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent
me. Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a
righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. And if anyone gives even
a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly
not lose their reward.’
After the reading silence may be kept.
THE SERMON
COLLECT OF THE WORD
O God,
who has taught us
that those who give a cup of water in his name
will not lose their reward:
open our hearts to the needs of your children,
and in all things make us obedient to your will,
so that in faith we may receive your gracious gift,
eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Response to God’s Word
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
Do you believe and trust in God the Father,
who made the world?
I believe and trust in him.
Do you believe and trust in his Son Jesus Christ,
who redeemed mankind?
I believe and trust in him.
Do you believe and trust in the Holy Spirit
who gives life to the people of God?
I believe and trust in him.
This is the faith of the Church.
This is our faith,
We believe and trust in One God,
Father, Son and holy Spirit.
THE PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
Almighty and everliving God,
we ask you to hear the prayers we offer in faith.
For the peace that comes from God alone,
for the unity of all peoples,
and for our salvation,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For the Church of Christ,
for Michael our Bishop, for all Christian leaders
and for the whole people of God,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For the nations of the world,
for our government and all in authority,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For this village and community,
For all who have found here a place of refuge,
for our neighbours and our friends,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For the good earth which God has given us,
and for the wisdom and will to conserve it,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For the aged and infirm,
for the widowed and orphans, for the sick and suffering,
for those suffering from the Coronavirus or its aftermath,
and for all in any need,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For the poor and the oppressed,
for the unemployed and the destitute,
for prisoners and captives,
and for all who remember and care for them,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
For the dying,
for those who mourn,
for the faithful whom we entrust to the Lord in hope,
as we look forward to the day
when we share the fullness of the resurrection,
let us pray to the Lord.
Lord, have mercy.
Rejoicing in the communion of all the saints,
let us commend ourselves,
and one another, and all our life, to God.
Silence is kept.
For yours is the majesty,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory,
now and for ever. Amen.
THE COLLECT OF THE DAY
Almighty God,
you have broken the tyranny of sin
and have sent the Spirit of your Son into our hearts
whereby we call you Father:
Give us grace to dedicate our freedom to your service,
that we and all creation may be brought
to the glorious liberty of the children of God;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
PRAYER ABOUT THE CURRENT CRISIS
O God, whose love we cannot measure,
nor even number thy blessings:
we bless and praise thee for all thy goodness,
who in our weakness art our strength,
in our darkness, light,
in our sorrows, comfort and peace,
and from everlasting to everlasting art our God,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Gathering our prayers and praises into one, we pray:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
Closing Hymn: CH492 “Ye servants of God, your servants proclaim”
Ye servants of God, your master proclaim,
and publish abroad his wonderful name;
the name all-victorious of Jesus extol;
his kingdom is glorious, and rules over all.
God ruleth on high, almighty to save;
and still he is nigh, his presence we have;
the great congregation his triumph shall sing,
ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.
Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!
Let all cry aloud, and honour the Son;
the praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
fall down on their faces and worship the Lamb.
Then let us adore, and give him his right:
all glory and power, all wisdom and might,
all honour and blessing, with angels above,
and thanks never-ceasing, and infinite love.
Charles Wesley (1707-88)
based on Revelation 4: 9-11; 5: 11-14

be always pleasing in your sight,
for the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

WEDNESDAY 24 JUNE 2020: COMPLINE
PREPARATION
OPENING PRAYER
Stand
The Lord Almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end. Amen.
A SENTENCE OF SCRIPTURE
Brethren, be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may
devour: whom resist, steadfast in the faith. 1 Peter 5: 8, 9
VERSICLES AND RESPONSES
The Lord be with you;
and also with you.
Come to us this night Lord;
come to us with light.
Speak to us this night Lord;
speak to us your truth.
You are our hiding place;
you protect us from trouble
and surround us with songs of deliverance.
CONFESSION
A prayerful examination of the past day may be undertaken after which the following words of penitence are used
He who conceals his sins does not prosper;
but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
We confess our sins before you Lord;
we confess them all.
sins of commission and sins of omission;
we confess them all.
Cleanse us and forgive us O loving Saviour;
cleanse and forgive us.
The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
rejoices at repentance and declares his acceptance.

and you will live in the house of the Lord for ever. Amen.
THE WORD OF GOD
PSALM
Psalm 80
1 Hear, O Shepherd of Israel,
you that led Joseph like a flock;
2. Shine forth, you that are enthroned upon the cherubim,
before Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh.
3 Stir up your mighty strength
and come to our salvation.
4. Turn us again, O God;
show the light of your countenance, and we shall be saved.
5 O Lord God of hosts,
how long will you be angry at your people’s prayer?
6. You feed them with the bread of tears;
you give them abundance of tears to drink.
7 You have made us the derision of our neighbours,
and our enemies laugh us to scorn.
8. Turn us again, O God of hosts;
show the light of your countenance, and we shall be saved.
9 You brought a vine out of Egypt;
you drove out the nations and planted it.
10. You made room around it,
and when it had taken root, it filled the land.
11 The hills were covered with its shadow
and the cedars of God by its boughs.
12. It stretched out its branches to the Sea
and its tendrils to the River.
13 Why then have you broken down its wall,
so that all who pass by pluck off its grapes?
14. The wild boar out of the wood tears it off,
and all the insects of the field devour it.
15 Turn again, O God of hosts,
look down from heaven and behold;
16. Cherish this vine which your right hand has planted,
and the branch that you made so strong for yourself.
17 Let those who burnt it with fire, who cut it down,
perish at the rebuke of your countenance.
18. Let your hand be upon the man at your right hand,
the son of man you made so strong for yourself.
19 And so will we not go back from you;
give us life, and we shall call upon your name.
20 Turn us again, O Lord God of hosts;
show the light of your countenance, and we shall be saved.
Glory be to the Father, ■
and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, ■
is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
A READING
Matthew 11: 2-19
When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, ‘Are you the one
who is to come, or are we to wait for another?’ Jesus answered them, ‘Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind
receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good
news brought to them. And blessed is anyone who takes no offence at me.’
As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to look at?
A reed shaken by the wind? What then did you go out to see? Someone dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear
soft robes are in royal palaces. What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
This is the one about whom it is written,
“See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,
who will prepare your way before you.”
Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the
kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered
violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John came; and if you are
willing to accept it, he is Elijah who is to come. Let anyone with ears listen!
‘But to what will I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the market-places and calling to one another,
“We played the flute for you, and you did not dance;
we wailed, and you did not mourn.”
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, “He has a demon”; the Son of Man came eating and drinking,
and they say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax-collectors and sinners!” Yet wisdom is vindicated by her
deeds.’

through Jesus Christ our Lord most high,
who with the Holy Ghost and thee
doth live and reign eternally. Amen.

as we stretch ourselves in readiness for the task ahead.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord we pray. Amen.
PRAYER OF ST AUGUSTINE
Almighty God,
to turn away from you is to fall,
to turn towards you is to rise,
and to stand in you is to live for ever.

in all our problems your guidance
in all our dangers your protection,
and in all our sorrows your peace;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
THE ENDING
DISMISSAL
We will lay us down in peace and take our rest.
For it is thou, Lord, only, that makest us dwell in safety.
BLESSING
The Lord bless you and keep you.
The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.
The Lord look kindly on you and give you peace;
and the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always. Amen.
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself,
and God our Father,
who loved us and gave eternal comfort
and good hope through grace,
comfort our hearts and establish them
in every good work and word.
And may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
be with us now, and for evermore. Amen
Nun’s Cross Church Re-Opening Plan July 2020
As a result of decisions made by Government it is possible to re-open churches on or after 29th June.
At a meeting of the Killiskey Select Vestry held remotely last Tuesday, guidance received from Church
and Government bodies was reviewed. A re-opening plan was considered and a decision was then taken
to re-open Nun’s Cross Church for public worship from Sunday 5th July, provided safety measures have
been put in place by then. This appears likely but a final decision will be taken by Saturday 27th June. To
this end an implementation team comprising Richard Henderson, Michael Norman, Lesley and Ken Rue
was formed at the meeting and Scott Golden was appointed as Compliance Officer.
Nun’s Cross Church and the services held therein will be adapted to the current circumstances and will
appear unfamiliar in some ways, but the overriding concern is for the safety of those attending.
The following is a summary of key elements of the plan:
Attendance
Those who have symptoms of coronavirus or are recovering or have been in contact with someone who
has been positive should self-isolate and not come to church.
Hygiene
There will be sanitiser units and sprays in various places.
Parishioners are encouraged to bring and take away their own sanitiser and tissues.
A cleaning rota will be established for the church, vestry and toilet.
Hymn books and prayer books will not be used and will be replaced by service leaflets.
The congregation will be encouraged to take leaflets with them at the end of each service and to dispose
of these at home.
The church will be ventilated.
The congregation are encouraged to contribute directly to the bank.
There will be no collection during a service. Cash may be left on a plate at the rear of the church.
The clergy will not greet people at the back of the church on exiting.
There will be no tea/coffee after church.
If the building is exposed to a person with symptoms, it will be closed for 72 hours.
There will be pedal-operated bins for the disposal of face coverings and disposable gloves.
Signage
There will be signage outside and inside the church to encourage social distancing, hand washing and
lack of physical contact.
Social Distancing
The number attending will be limited to a maximum of 50 people (potentially increasing at a later date).
The congregation will be advised to stay a distance of two metres away from those outside their
household (potentially reducing to one metre at a later date).
Pews will be cordoned off to ensure social distancing rules are applied.
Sides people will assist the churchwardens with stewarding.
Tracking and Tracing
A register of attendees will be maintained.
Visitors will be required to supply their name and mobile number.
Services
To facilitate those who may feel too vulnerable to attend, services will be uploaded to
Facebook/YouTube.
Readers to be requested to sit near the lectern and not to touch the microphone.
Singing
The choir will be suspended, as will congregational singing.
Hymns will be sung by a cantor or recorded music played.
Communion
The sign of peace will continue to be suspended.
Perspex visors will be worn by those distributing communion.
Hands are to be sanitised before handling receptacles/ the elements.
Funerals
Numbers attending to be limited in accordance with government guidelines.
No condolence books to be permitted at funerals.
Family members to be prohibited from carrying coffin.
Baptisms
Numbers attending to be limited in accordance with government guidelines, potentially resulting in
more private baptisms.
Clergy not to hold or touch children who are being baptised.
Candle to be lit by parent from Paschal candle.
Weddings

SERVICE OF MORNING PRAYER
The Gathering of God’s People
GREETING
The Lord be with you
and also with you.
SENTENCE OF SCRIPTURE
In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
Philippians 4: 6
Opening Hymn: CH368 “Sing of the Lord’s goodness”
Sing of the Lord’s goodness,
Father of all wisdom,
come to him and bless his name.
Mercy he has shown us,
his love is for ever,
faithful to the end of days.
Come, then, all you nations,
sing of your Lord’s goodness,
melodies of praise and thanks to God;
ring out the Lord’s glory,
praise him with your music,
worship him and bless his name.
Power he has wielded,
honour is his garment,
risen from the snares of death.
His word he has spoken,
one bread he has broken,
new life he now gives to all.
Courage in our darkness,
comfort in our sorrow
–
Spirit of our God most high!
Solace for the weary,
pardon for the sinner,
splendour of the living God.
Praise him with your singing,
praise him with the trumpet,
praise God with the lute and harp!
praise him with the cymbals,
praise him with your dancing,
praise God till the end of days.
Ernest Sands
INTRODUCTION
We come to offer to Almighty God
our worship and praise and thanksgiving,
to confess our sins and to receive God’s forgiveness,
to hear his holy word proclaimed,
to bring before him our needs and the needs of the world,
and to pray that in the power of his Spirit
we may serve him and know the greatness of his love.
Let us confess our sins to God our Father.
Silence is kept.
CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION
Heavenly Father,
we have sinned against you and against our neighbour
in thought and word and deed,
through negligence, through weakness,
through our own deliberate fault;
by what we have done
and by what we have failed to do.
We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ who died for us,
forgive us all that is past;
and grant that we may serve you in newness of life
to the glory of your name. Amen.
Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent,
have mercy on you,
pardon and deliver you from all your sins,
confirm and strengthen you in all goodness,
and keep you in eternal life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Proclaiming and Receiving the Word
O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth will proclaim your praise.
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.
Praise the Lord.
The Lord’s name be praised.
Canticle: Hymn 701 Jubilate Deo (sung twice)
Jubilate, ev’rybody,
serve the Lord in all your ways,
and come before his presence singing:
enter now his courts with praise.
For the Lord our God is gracious,
And his mercy everlasting.
Jubilate, jubilate, jubilate Deo!
Fred Dunn (1907-1979)
based on the Canticle ‘Jubilate’ (Psalm 100)
The First Reading: Jeremiah 20: 7-13
You deceived me, Lord, and I was deceived; you overpowered me and prevailed.
I am ridiculed all day long; everyone mocks me.
Whenever I speak, I cry out proclaiming violence and destruction.
So the word of the Lord has brought me insult and reproach all day long.
But if I say, “I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,”
his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.
I hear many whispering, “Terror on every side!
Denounce him! Let’s denounce him!”
All my friends are waiting for me to slip, saying,
“Perhaps he will be deceived; then we will prevail over him
and take our revenge on him.”
But the Lord is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and not prevail.
They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonour will never be forgotten.
Lord Almighty, you who examine the righteous and probe the heart and mind,
let me see your vengeance on them, for to you I have committed my cause.
Sing to the Lord! Give praise to the Lord!
He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked.
The Psalm: Psalm 69: 8-20
8 For your sake have I suffered reproach; ♦︎
shame has covered my face.
9 I have become a stranger to my kindred, ♦︎
an alien to my mother’s children.
10 Zeal for your house has eaten me up; ♦︎
the scorn of those who scorn you has fallen upon me.
11 I humbled myself with fasting, ♦︎
but that was turned to my reproach.
12 I put on sackcloth also ♦︎
and became a byword among them.
13 Those who sit at the gate murmur against me, ♦︎
and the drunkards make songs about me.
14 But as for me, I make my prayer to you, O Lord; ♦︎
at an acceptable time, O God.
15 Answer me, O God, in the abundance of your mercy ♦︎
and with your sure salvation.
16 Draw me out of the mire, that I sink not; ♦︎
let me be rescued from those who hate me
and out of the deep waters.
17 Let not the water flood drown me,
neither the deep swallow me up; ♦︎
let not the Pit shut its mouth upon me.
18 Answer me, Lord, for your loving-kindness is good; ♦︎
turn to me in the multitude of your mercies.
19 Hide not your face from your servant; ♦︎
be swift to answer me, for I am in trouble.
20 Draw near to my soul and redeem me; ♦︎
deliver me because of my enemies.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the be|ginning, is now,
and shall be for ever. Amen.
The Second Reading: Romans 6: 1b-11
Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how
can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were
baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just
as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a
resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin
might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has
been set free from sin.
Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was
raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he
died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Hymn before the Gospel: CH638 “O for a heart to praise my God”
O for a heart to praise my God,
a heart from sin set free;
a heart that’s cleansèd by the blood
so freely shed for me.
A heart resigned, submissive, meek,
my great Redeemer’s throne;
where only Christ is heard to speak,
where Jesus reigns alone;
A humble, lowly, contrite heart,
believing, true, and clean,
which neither life nor death can part
from him that dwells within;
A heart in every thought renewed,
and full of love divine,
perfect and right, and pure and good,
a copy, Lord, of thine.
Thy nature, gracious Lord, impart;
come quickly from above:
write thy new name upon my heart,
thy new, best name of love.
Charles Wesley (1707-88)
based on Psalm 51: 10; Ezekiel 36: 26
The Gospel: Matthew 10: 24-39
“The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for students to be like
their teachers, and servants like their masters. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how
much more the members of his household!
“So do not be afraid of them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will
not be made known. What I tell you in the dark, speak in the daylight; what is whispered in your ear,
proclaim from the roofs. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be
afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet
not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head
are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
“Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But
whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son
or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not
worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.

Hymn of Faith: CH22“You shall cross the barren desert” (vs 1 and 3)
You shall cross the barren desert,
but you shall not die of thirst.
You shall wander far in safety,
though you do not know the way.
You shall speak your words in foreign lands
and all will understand.
You shall see the face of God and live.
Be not afraid,
I go before you always.
Come, follow Me,
and I will give you rest.
Blessed are your poor,
for the kingdom shall be theirs.
Blessed are you that weep and mourn,
for one day you shall laugh.
And if wicked tongues insult
and hate you all because of me,
blessed, blessed are you!

The Prayers of the People
The Lord be with you
and also with you.
Kneel
Let us pray.
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
On earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen.
Show us your mercy, O Lord,
and grant us your salvation.
O Lord, guide and defend our rulers
and grant our government wisdom.
Let your ministers be clothed with righteousness
and let your servants shout for joy.
O Lord, save your people
and bless those whom you have chosen.
Give peace in our time, O Lord,
and let your glory be over all the earth.
O God, make clean our hearts within us
and renew us by your Holy Spirit.
THE COLLECTS
THE COLLECT OF THE DAY
Lord, you have taught us
that all our doings without love are nothing worth:
Send your Holy Spirit
and pour into our hearts that most excellent gift of love,
the true bond of peace and of all virtues,
without which whoever lives is counted dead before you.
Grant this for your only Son Jesus Christ’s sake. Amen.
COLLECTS AT MORNING PRAYER
O God, the author of peace and lover of concord,
to know you is eternal life, and to serve you is perfect freedom:
Defend us in all assaults of our enemies,
that we, surely trusting in your protection,
may not fear the power of any adversaries;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Go before us, Lord, in all our doings, with your most gracious favour,
and further us with your continual help;
that in all our works begun, continued and ended in you,
we may glorify your holy name,
and finally by your mercy attain everlasting life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
PRAYER IN PREPARING FOR THE REOPENING OF CHURCHES FOR PUBLIC WORSHIP
Creator God,
not limited by time or space;
your Son worshipped in synagogue and temple,
and your Spirit came in power on the disciples as they met in the Upper Room.
By that same Spirit,
guide us as we prepare to reopen the churches in this parish and diocese.
May they be places of safety,
where all feel your welcome, experience your love
and are equipped in your service.
We pray for those who through age or vulnerability will continue to worship at home,
that together we may all rejoice in your goodness and know your blessing,
until we can offer unceasing praise in your heavenly kingdom,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

RACIAL JUSTICE PRAYER
God of Heaven and Earth,
you created the one human family
and endowed each person with great dignity.
Aid us, we pray, in overcoming the sin of racism.
Fill our hearts with love for you and our neighbour
so that we may work with you
in striving for racial justice.
Help all governments work to eliminate discrimination
from social and civil institutions.
This we pray through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Closing Hymn: Thanks & Praise 63 “I’m not ashamed to own my Lord”
I’m not ashamed to own my Lord,
or to defend his cause;
maintain the honour of his word,
the glory of his cross.
At the cross at the cross where I first saw the light
and the burden of my heart rolled away;
it was there by faith I received my sight
and now I am happy all the day.
Jesus, my God! I know his name,
his name is all my trust;
nor will he put my soul to shame,
nor let my hope be lost.
Firm as his throne his promise stands;
and he can well secure
what I’ve committed to his hands
till the decisive hour.
Then will he own my worthless name
before his Father’s face;
and, in the new Jerusalem,
appoint my soul a place.

refrain Ralph Erskine Hudson (1843-1901)
Going Out as God’s People
The Lord be with you
and also with you.
Let us bless the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
To God, who by the power at work within us,
is able to do far more abundantly
than all we ask or think,
to him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus
to all generations for ever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3: 20

PSALM
Psalm 31:21-24
Thanks be to the Lord *
for he hath shewed me marvellous great kindness in a strong

FIRST READING
Nehemiah 9:1-8
Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the people of
Israel were assembled with fasting and in sackcloth, and with
dust on their heads. Then those of Israelite descent separated
themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their
sins and the iniquities of their ancestors. They stood up in
their place and read from the book of the law of
the LORD their God for a fourth part of the day, and for
another fourth they made confession and worshipped
the LORD their God. Then Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah,
Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani stood on the stairs of the
Levites and cried out with a loud voice to the LORD their
God. Then the Levites, Jeshua, Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah,
Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, ‘Stand up
and bless the LORD your God from everlasting to everlasting.
Blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all
blessing and praise.’ And Ezra said: ‘You are the LORD, you
alone; you have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all
their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is
in them. To all of them you give life, and the host of heaven
worships you. You are the LORD, the God who chose Abram
and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and gave him the
name Abraham; and you found his heart faithful before you,
and made with him a covenant to give to his descendants the
land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite,
the Jebusite, and the Girgashite; and you have fulfilled your
promise, for you are righteous.
CANTICLE
Magnificat
My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in
God my Saviour.
For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me
blessed.
For he that is mighty hath magnified me,
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all
generations.
He hath shewed strength with his arm, he hath scattered the
proud, in the imagination of their hearts.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat and hath exalted
the humble and meek.
He hath filled the hungry with good things and the rich he
hath sent empty away.
He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel, as
he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed for ever.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world
without end. Amen.
SECOND READING
St Luke 6:12-19
Now during those days he went out to the mountain to pray;
and he spent the night in prayer to God. And when day came,
he called his disciples and chose twelve of them, whom he
also named apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and his
brother Andrew, and James, and John, and Philip, and
Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James son of
Alphaeus, and Simon, who was called the Zealot, and Judas
son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
He came down with them and stood on a level place, with a
great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people
from all Judea, Jerusalem, and the coast of Tyre and
Sidon. They had come to hear him and to be healed of their
diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits
were cured. And all in the crowd were trying to touch him, for
power came out from him and healed all of them.
CANTICLE
Nunc Dimittis
Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace: according
to thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation which thou
hast prepared before the face of all people; to be a light to
lighten the Gentiles and to be the glory of thy people Israel.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world
without end. Amen.

MORNING PRAYER 1 – 14 JUNE 2020 THE FIRST SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY
Opening Hymn: CH59 “New every morning is the love”(vs. 1-3, 5, 6) New every morning is the love our wakening and uprising prove; through sleep and darkness safely brought, restored to life and power and thought.
New mercies, each returning day, hover around us while we pray; new perils past, new sins forgiven, new thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven.
If on our daily course our mind be set to hallow all we find, new treasures still, of countless price, God will provide for sacrifice.
The trivial round, the common task, will furnish all we need to ask, room to deny ourselves, a road to bring us daily nearer God.
Only, O Lord, in thy dear love fit us for perfect rest above; and help us, this and every day, to live more nearly as we pray.
John Keble (1792-1866) altd. based on Lamentations 3: 22-23
SENTENCE OF SCRIPTURE Through Christ let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of lips that that acknowledge his name. Hebrews 13: 15
Let us humbly confess our sins unto almighty God.
A GENERAL CONFESSION Almighty and most merciful Father; We have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against thy holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; And we have done those things which we ought not to have done; And there is no health in us. But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults. Restore thou them that are penitent; According to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake; That we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, To the glory of thy holy Name. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, And the glory, For ever and ever. Amen. O Lord, open thou our lips and our mouth shall show forth thy praise. God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Praise ye the Lord. The Lord’s name be praised.
FIRST CANTICLE
VENITE Psalm 95 1 O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving and shew ourselves glad in him with psalms.
3 For the Lord is a great God and a great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are all the corners of the earth and the strength of the hills is his also.
5 The sea is his, and he made it, and his hands prepared the dry land.
6 O come, let us worship and fall down and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
7 For he is the Lord our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
8 Today if ye will hear his voice: harden not your hearts, as in the provocation and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness;
9 When your fathers tempted me, provèd me, and saw my works.
10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their hearts, for they have not known my ways;
11 Unto whom I sware in my wrath, that they should not enter into my rest. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
A LESSON from the Old Testament
Exodus 19:2-8a After they set out from Rephidim, they entered the Desert of Sinai, and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain. Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites.” So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words the Lord had commanded him to speak. THE PSALM
Psalm 100 1 O be joyful in the Lord, all the earth; ♦︎ serve the Lord with gladness and come before his presence with a song. 2 Know that the Lord is God; ♦︎ it is he that has made us and we are his; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. 3 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; ♦︎ give thanks to him and bless his name. 4 For the Lord is gracious; his steadfast love is everlasting, ♦︎ and his faithfulness endures from generation to generation.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
A LESSON from the New Testament
Romans 5: 1-8 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
After the reading silence may be kept.
Hymn before the Gospel: CH662 “He who would valiant be” (Version 2) He who would valiant be ‘gainst all disaster, Let him in constancy follow the Master. There’s no discouragement shall make him once relent his first avowed intent to be a pilgrim.
Who so beset him round with dismal stories, do but themselves confound – his strength the more is. No foes shall stay his might, though he with giants fight: he will make good his right to be a pilgrim.
Since, Lord, thou dost defend us with thy Spirit, we know we at the end shall life inherit. Then fancies flee away! I’ll fear not what men say, I’ll labour night and day to be a pilgrim.
Percey Dearmer (1867-1936) after John Bunyan (1628-88) A LESSON from the Gospels
Matthew 9: 35 — 10: 8 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give. After the reading silence may be kept.
BENEDICTUS The Song of Zechariah Luke 1: 68-79 1 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for he hath visited and redeemed his people, 2 And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us in the house of his servant David; 3 As he spake by the mouth of his holy Prophets which have been since the world began; 4 That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hands of all that hate us, 5 To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers, and to remember his holy covenant; 6 To perform the oath which he sware to our forefather Abraham: that he would give us,
7 That we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, 8 In holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life. 9 And thou, child, shalt be called the Prophet of the Highest, for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; 10 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people, for the remission of their sins, 11 Through the tender mercy of our God whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us, 12 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
THE APOSTLES’ CREED is said
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father almighty. From thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Hymn of Faith: CH560 “Alone with none but thee, my God”(adapted) Alone with none but thee, my God, I journey on my way: what need I fear when thou art near, O King of night and day? More safe am I within thy hand than if a host should round me stand.
The child of God can fear no ill, his chosen, dread no foe; ’tis not from chance our comfort springs, thou art our trust, O King of kings.
My destined time is fixed by thee, and death doth know his hour; did warriors strong around me throng, they could not stay his power: No walls of stone can man defend when thou thy messenger dost send.
My life I yield to thy decree, and bow to thy control in peaceful calm, for from thine arm no power can wrest my soul: could earthly omens e’er appal a man that heeds the heavenly call?
Attrib. Columba (c.520-597)

Trinity Sunday
Preparation
GREETING In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The Lord be with you and also with you.
INVITATION TO WORSHIP Let us worship the Trinity:
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty who was, and is, and is to come! Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.
PRAISE Let us pray: Father, we praise you; through your Word and Holy Spirit you created all things. You reveal your salvation in all the world by sending to us Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh. Through your Holy Spirit you give us a share in your life and love. Amen.
PENITENCE Father, you come to meet us when we return to you: Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Jesus, you died on the cross for our sins: Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy.
Spirit, you give us life and peace: Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; thy justice, like mountains high soaring above, thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.
To all, life thou givest, to both great and small; in all life thou livest, the true life of all; we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, and wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight; all laud we would render: O help us to see ’tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.
W. Chalmers Smith (1824-1908) based on 1 Timothy 1: 17; Psalm 36: 6
THE COLLECT OF THE DAY Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; for you live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Ministry of the Word
The First Reading: Isaiah 40: 12-17, 27-31 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance? Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, or instruct the Lord as his counselor? Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge, or showed him the path of understanding? Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales;
he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust. Lebanon is not sufficient for altar fires, nor its animals enough for burnt offerings. Before him all the nations are as nothing; they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing. Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
RESPONSORY Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest!
The Psalm: Psalm 8 1 O Lord our Governor : how excellent is thy Name in all the world! 2 Thou that hast set thy glory above the heavens : out of the mouth of very babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength, 3 Because of thine enemies : that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger. 4 When I consider thy heavens, even the works of thy fingers : the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 5 What is man, that thou art mindful of him : and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 6 Thou madest him lower than the angels : to crown him with glory and worship. 7 Thou makest him to have dominion of the works of thy hands : and thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet; 8 All sheep and oxen : yea, and the beasts of the field; 9 The fowls of the air, and the fishes of the sea : and whatsoever walketh through the paths of the seas. 10 O Lord our Governor : how excellent is thy Name in all the world!
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
The Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All God’s people here send their greetings. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
RESPONSORY Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest!
Hymn before the Gospel: CH321 “Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty” Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty, early in the morning our song shall rise to thee; holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty; God in Three Persons, blessèd Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee, casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, God everlasting through eternity.
Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide thee, though the sinful human eye thy glory may not see, only thou art holy; there is none beside thee perfect in power, in love, and purity.
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God almighty! all thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea; holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty; God in Three Persons, blessèd Trinity!
The Gospel: Matthew 28: 16-20 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
COLLECT OF THE WORD God of heaven and earth, before the foundation of the universe and the beginning of time you are the triune God: author of creation, eternal Word of salvation, life-giving Spirit of wisdom. Guide us to all truth by your Spirit, that we may proclaim all that Christ has revealed and rejoice in the glory he shares with us. Glory and praise to you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.
SERMON
Responding
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Let us make a statement of faith: We believe in one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is love.
We praise God the Father: who created the universe and keeps it in being. He has made us his sons and daughters to share his joy, living together in justice and peace, caring for his world and for each other.
We proclaim Jesus Christ, God the Son: born of Mary, by the power of the Holy Spirit, he became one of us, sharing our life and our death. He has made known God’s compassion and mercy, giving hope and declaring forgiveness of sin, offering healing and wholeness to all. By his death on the cross and by his resurrection, he has triumphed over evil. Jesus is Lord of life and all creation.
We trust God the Holy Spirit: who unites us to Christ, and gives life to the Church; who brings us to repentance and assures us of forgiveness. The Spirit guides us in our understanding of the bible, renews us in the sacraments, and calls us to serve God in the world. Amen.
Hymn of Faith: Thanks and Praise 173 “You who dwell in the shadow of the Lord” You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord, who abide in His shadow for life, say to the Lord, “My refuge, my rock in whom I trust.”
And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His Hand.
Snares of the fowler will never capture you, and famine will bring you no fear; under His Wings your refuge, with faithfulness your shield.
For to His angels he’s given a command, to guard you in all of your ways, upon their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
Michael Joncas (b. 1951) based on Psalm 91 and Isaiah 40: 31

THE LORD’S PRAYER Let us sum up all our prayers and praises in the words our Saviour Christ has taught us, saying: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Closing Hymn: CH173 “God forgave my sin in Jesus’ name”(vs. 1 and 2) God forgave my sin in Jesus’ name; I’ve been born again in Jesus’ name, and in Jesus’ name I come to you to share His love as He told me to
He said: ‘Freely, freely, you have received, freely, freely give; go in My name, and because you believe, others will know that I live.’
All power is given in Jesus’ name in earth and heaven in Jesus’ name and in Jesus’ name I come to you to share His power as He told me to.
