Evening Prayer
10th November, 2021.
Preparation
O God, make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.
Psalm 126
When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, then were we like those who dream.
Then was our mouth filled with laughter and our tongue with songs of joy.
Then said they among the nations, ‘The Lord has done great things for them.’
The Lord has indeed done great things for us, and therefore we rejoiced.
Restore again our fortunes, O Lord, as the river beds in the desert.
Those who sow in tears shall reap with songs of joy.
Those who go out weeping, bearing the seed, will come back with shouts of joy, bearing their sheaves with them.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now and shall be for ever. Amen.
Opening prayer
That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful, let us pray with one heart and mind.
As our evening prayer rises before you, O God, so may your mercy come down upon us to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise now and for ever.
The word of God
Isaiah 2:1-5
The word that Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. In days to come the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; all the nations shall stream to it. Many peoples shall come and say, ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.’ For out of Zion shall go forth instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and shall arbitrate for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!
Address
Anthem: The call of wisdom
Lord of wisdom, lord of truth, lord of justice, lord of mercy.
Walk beside us down the years, ’till we see you in your glory.
Striving to attain the heights.
Turning in a new direction.
Entering a lonely place.
Welcoming a friend or stranger.
I am here, I am with you.
I have called, do you hear me?
I am here, I am here, I am with you.
Silver is of passing worth (Silver), gold is not of constant value.
Jewels sparkle for a while.
What you long for is not lasting.
I am here, I am with you.
I have called, do you hear me?
I am here, I am here.
I am with you.
Rulers govern under me.
With my insight and my wisdom.
Those who know me know my love.
Those who seek me find their answer.
I am here, I am with you.
I have called, do you hear me?
I am here, I am here.
I am with you ×2
God, the father and the son.
Holy Spirit, coeternal.
Glory, glory, be ascribed to you.
Now and to the end, to the end of ages.
I am here, I am with you.
I have called, do you hear me?
I am here, I am here.
I am with you, with you, with you.
